The Next 150 Strategic Plan identifies professional education as a campus-wide strategic priority, to make “the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign the go-to place for professional and continuing education programs” as we “innovate in graduate, professional and continuing education with new degree programs and certificates at the intersection of disciplines,” and provide the general public with new educational opportunities, including new workforce development partnerships that leverage “Illinois expertise to create new jobs and enhance the skill sets of new and existing workers.”
The Office of Professional Education was established by the Provost’s Office in Aug. 2021 to expand the university’s non-degree offerings, developing professional programs that provide educational opportunities for those seeking to deepen their knowledge in an area or transition to new careers. These programs will increase the impact, scale, scope, efficiency, and sustainability of the university’s professional education activities, including graduate certificates, professional master’s degree programs, non-credit courses, and collaborative external partnerships.
